The children in this bourgeoisie family have always come second to their parents; the daughter can never live up to her movie star mother, and the son has never been able to impress the father that can "tell how a steak is cooked by looking at the man who cooked it."  Though he may have gone to far when he hires a local actress to pose as his girlfriend during one unusual dinner.
